Hey Ladies!

Well hopefully after a summer of gluttony we are ready to become bookworms again! I found the latest book (bought in last week in local shop was promo with the Indo) to be good, thought initially it had more potential but not altogether certain my initial reaction is correct. It's a good read with great themes throughout female friendships, mother - daughter relationships, ageing, death, birth, love and finding your path in life!!

So I've just finished it last night during a flight delay at Brussels airport, I suppose being adopted I had hoped for more from it but found it gave me more questions than answers. But in retrospect I think thats what book's main theme was: questioning your life and they relationships that affect it. So there you go am not gonna give away any plot etc.

Also I have to say one of the characters reminded me of someone.................

Well just finished reading Venus Reborn on Sunday and have to say that overall my high expectations of the book weren't met. I liked the romantic idea of a baby found in a seal cave and thought it a good premise for a novel. I found that the book was slow to start and the main story seemed to become a sub-plot! The story of Lily and her impending marriage to a Chechen immigrant in order for him to gain citizenship took centre stage. Another thing I disliked was the writing of a Twee Ireland littered with all those awful old Irish sayings and also how the author brings in facts like where Chechnya is and how to go about finding birth parents, etc without seemlessly incorporating them into the plotline. I did like the last few chapters as that's when the book got interesting and all the questions were tied together in a nice neat bow. I was a tad disappointed with the outcome of who her birth parents were and how she came to be left on a beach and it all was a little too neat. My overall feeling after finishing the book was one of disappointment.
